In Topic: CISAM Utilities - Defrag & Rec Count

22 May 2018 - 09:17 AM

Hello Rob

I am trying to uncompress an index.

defrag [-compress] [-decompress] [-copy] [-tmp ] [-nolock] 'filename'

$ defrag  -dcompress  hacsdx4.dat

CISAM version    : C-ISAM Version 7.24.UC5
Serial number : Software Serial Number UMD#J999999

   Processing File: -dcompress
02: Error Opening File: 2

am i doing something wrong?  or is that a bug?

to make that clearer   - storage format  or length can not be changed.

filedef would need to be copied to new file like adding index or variables.

we've been using your defrag utility since 2007  .   it just works great.

I have another question.

As Richard stated we should not compress the .dat files.      that in order for potential non pro4 programs to read the files.

Does the same hold true for the index files?

 Or to guarantee compatibility with other programs should we leave all uncompressed?
