In Topic: Protecting Code

"...My company is going to be GIVING Glovia code (w00t) that I developed both at this job, but also code that I brought with me to my current job  . The code that I developed after starting, I understand they can do with what they want, but how do I protect the core functionality I developed outside this job..."

Andy,
Does your employer know that you are using code you "brought with you"? I doubt they would want to be reliant on a piece of code that they don't have the source and rights to.

In Topic: Converting Code from 5.5 to 6.1

Hi,

Since v6.2 is just out and there are improvements to VIP ++ etc I suggest you migrate from v5.5 to v6.2 using export and import as recommended by Proiv.

We just tried a migration from 5.5 Developer Studio to 6.1 VIP (with the very good help of Neil Holmes of Proiv) and found a number of problems with the upgrade process and resulting v6.1 functions but then again some of our functions are pushing the limits of Proiv :x: . These functions will probably need re-writing :ermm: .

In Topic: PRO-IV and Virtual Servers

We have ProIV 5.5r543 operational for almost 6 months on a virtual machine running Windows 2003 server as our development, test and training environment without any issues or problems. We will be migrating our production ProIV server to a virtual machine later this year.

Hi Fred,

We are interested in doing this so please let me know what virtual machine software are you using and on what hardware, cpus memory.
thanks

In Topic: Best method for remote connections to proiv

12 March 2008 - 11:00 AM

Hi Cathy,

You don't say how far your remote users are and this may make a difference. We have one user with the server in the UK and some clients in Singapore, despite having a fast line they were getting unacceptable response times. After their network gurus had run traces on the line they informed us that proiv was very "chatty". Using Citrix made a big difference to them and resolved all the problems.
