Solved the issue.

i had use a new file name .

for instance i had just used the same file at @F  and changed C-FLT to C-DEC .  deleted file on disk and created a new one using pro4.

that did not work.

i copied the file to a new name  in pro4   , created file and now the data displays on a pro4 screen...   there is always a workaround.   since i have 80 files to convert C-FLT to C-DEC i'm sure i'll find there is a way to get it done using existing pro4 file and just changing data type...

thanks again for the help,  and if you have any other c-isam know how to pass on please post in the future.

What you did ought to have worked though, unless perhaps you didn't regen one of the functions involved?

Don't forget that with C-DEC you do need to pick a storage format for every field - that's a downside compared to C-FLT.  The ideal world is a genuine decimal floating type but IIRC that's only available in Oracle and DB2.

I know (or maybe knew) a fair bit about ProIV and C-ISAM as I implemented the support in ProIV in the late '80s or something.  Happy to try and help if needed although I don't pass this way often any more.

You can have my email if you want, no problem.  Rob D has loads more practical application experience with C-ISAM than me anyway though.

Nothing's as simple as you think
