We don't seem to have had a poll for a while and I wondered what other languages people used regularly / were most experienced in.
The poll mechanism only allows for ten answers, so I just had to guess at ten most-likely answers. If you have to answer "other" or you have more than one other language that you use regularly please do post a reply to clarify :p

Cleve, the cobol, you bet. Now go a step further, Maco Level Cics, Command Level Cics, Main frame assembler, FoxPro for Dos, Foxpro for Windows, Visual Fox, PL Sql, Transact SQL, Quick Basic, Visual Basic
but I stay away from C, or C++. I gave up lowlevel programminmg a long time ago.

It could be straight forward for others, but in fact I cannot determine (from the very short list of options) if I am "most skilled" in COBOL, C++, Visual Basic or Java... as Bill Loven's case, I've beeing programming for almost 20 years.. (actually I didn't vote).

As far as I could see, the forum wouldn't let me create a poll with more than 10 answers or let you vote for more than one answer. Don't know if Rob can do anything about that for this kind of poll? Rob?
If you have no one language you use most often then listing those you do use regularly and not voting is perfect as far as I'm concerned. For example I've done plenty of PL/SQL and Perl and some C++, Ada and FORTRAN (!) but the only languages I use every week are ProIV and C.

Hi,

Its a limitation of the board that there are only 10 options and one answer.

When I get the time (bit busy with ProIV IDE at the mo) I'll think about upgrading the board to a new version.... but I think that the guys who write the software now charge fot it :lol:

Understand. I wouldn't vote because I do not want to give my 100% to a single option :-)

I loved to program in Fortran in VMS, but in that environment COBOL was an easier way to create complex reports, or better yet, DATATRIEVE, and shell language DCL was good enough even using random access files and sorting.

As for me VMS was a lot nicer than Unix and even more powerful, same as BLISS, the systems programming language of DEC, was nicer than C and powerful enough (though wordy compared to C). When using MVS, COBOL and SAS were my first options...

And that's just to talk about what was used for large systems 15 years ago.

I wouldn't say I prefer to program in one or another language... programming for me is a kind of art, and the language used is just a tool... that could be changed when needed.

Currently I prefer 4GL's... wouldn't be nice to know what other RAD's or 4GL's are used around here?

anyway, change this option to be NONE (yes thats right, no other programming language), it might be an interesting result

I was looking for the NONE option myself. I'm extremely happy to be a one-trick pony (and a rather half-assed one at that).
