If your customer still has a support contract, ProIV might be prepared to re-serialize the 4.0 that you have on the new server but there might well be a charge and new licensing/support conditions.
If you have no support contract or are changing OS platforms you may have a problem..

Thank you, my customer is using the PROIV 4.0 for Unix, we'll have some problem when migrating to 4.6 for linux?
Best Regards
Junior
As Richard said, PROIV will be able to help but you may be charged if you are off your support contract. Support for Version 4.0 was discontinued in 1996, but version 5.5 will run 4.0 and 4.6 object code without issue. If you are moving to a new server YOU WILL DEFINITELY NEED NEW KEYS. This is no different than if you were moving Oracle to a new server. Good luck.

A PROIV Version 4.6 Kernel (Virtual Machine) will run 4.0 object code without issue. If you were to simply install 4.6 and then reference the existing bootstraps (from the 4.0 environment) then it would work.

No you will not have a problem.

Really?
Every version of P4 we have upgraded over the yrs, we have had to do quite a bit of changing to functions and stuff because of differences, code not genning etc etc... cant remember any specifics, but I know we've had projects for every upgrade that we have done....

Also, if any functions run close to the edge of workspace, available workspace decreased steadily, albeit slightly, from V30 to V40 to V46 to V55. So it pays to be very sceptical that anything will just work.
I would strongly discourage the assumption that an application will definitely be unaffected by upgrading ProIV - it needs to be regression tested.

You may be correct with version 3.0, but it had a very short shelf life anyway and was quickly replaced with version 4.0
With regard to workspace, there was a parameter that could be defined in the ini file that allowed workspace size to be defined, although I cannot remember what it was off the top of my head. I know I have ran a 5.5. kernel against a 4.0 genfile without issue. Maintenance of the code may require some upgrading, but the app should run.

Every upgrade I've done, we have always had some functions, which either wont gen, need changing or some other kind of change to make them work in the new version.
Although, I've never used the gen records from one version to the next, so I don't know about that. But personally, I wouldn't do that. I would always regen everything and that is when we have found problems in the past.
