PROIV is still around!!!!
I wonder why would a smart group of people continue to pursue a career in PROIV?
Is it fear of change!!!

I'm not sure why this is suprising? COBOL is still around, C is still around, FORTRAN is still around. Programming languages don't die while there are systems still written in them, and systems need programmers. And we still need someone to share our thoughts with! Anyway it is fun being big fish in a small pond!!
If this wasn't a smart thing to be doing (e.g. if we weren't making money from it) then we wouldn't still be around!

I've yet to see any other software that can compete with the speed of development.
I've worked at a number of places where they attempted to migrate from pro-iv to a-nother system only to find out that they would then be faced with a considerable time difference in developing the software.

Hi
We've business app(s) made up of approx 2000 functions, 500+ tables
This app has evolved (lots of good design) over 12 calendar years (probably 100+ man yrs development) and has been deployed on IBM Mainframe, Unix, Windows, ISAM, ORACLE etc.,
Our Users are happy - but If I went to them tomorrow and said some ANONYMOUS forum poster says I'm scared/fearful (of what ?) and should rewrite the App(s), willl you please fund this - I sort of guess what their replies might be ?
We also have some Java/J2EE apps they are also very good
At the end of the day Pro-IV & Java are tools and its knoledge of the tools and good design that makes good apps
Rgds
George

George - our anonymous poster obviously has no sense of personal responsibility (or he wouldn't be anonymous) so what makes you think he thinks he's under any obligation to write decent apps? I'm sure he just bangs out a load of garbage and goes home happy and secure in the knowledge that he gets paid regardless of quality.
Oh, and he should be aware that if he's going to troll he's not that anonymous !!
Cheers
Mike
