Has anybody downloaded the free single developer PROIV licence? I have just had a look at it and the tutorial is pretty good. What does everybody else think?

Pro-IV Single Developer is a single user version of Pro-IV that is being given away free by |Northgate. It is available for Windows and Linux and is a 150Mg download from the Pro-IV partner Site. You do not need to be a partner to download. This version supports Oracle and SQL server and a vert good tutorial is included.

Hi all,

We downloaded it but have not yet had time to play B)

Does it support all the normal things such as Oracle, SQLServer etc

Does the 2 hour timeout still apply?

regards

Yes it is fully functional, there is no serialisation and it support Oracle and SQL Server with no restrictions.

Hi,

It does not support Bus & Tasks, and there is only VIP, and there are no Native editors. (ie @MOD or Studio)

I will be loading it today and having a play so I'll put on some feedback later.

(But no native editors you say? Hmmm.)

hi,

The Single Developer is aimed at increasing the number of developers in the PRO-IV market.

As such why would they try and promote PRO-IV by showing them @MOD B)

Hi,

There is no need to 'promote' it to the new people, however, there are a large number of developers and sites and are no where near moving from Green Screen and we still need to provide for them.

Hmm..

I registered but when I clicked on the link they mailed me to activate my account after successful registration I just got a blank screen in IE. I did appear to be able to login but when I found my way to "downloads" (which I had to do manually?) all I got was an "Access Denied" error..

I've taken it up with ProIV of course but let's hope this isn't the experience of the potential new users..

Anyone else tried this or are you all logging in as pre-existing partners?

Rob - of course ProIV don't want existing users who need @MOD etc. to take up single developer. That would just cannibalize their licence revenue!

Incidentally, if you've been able to download, does anything say if the Single Developer licence is 'perpetual' or does it look like it might have a limited lifetime after which people who've taken it up might be asked to move to paid dev licences?

I guess that people who use ProIV at work (and are licensed) would want to try things out at home possibly. That’s why it would be useful to have @MOD, ProAide etc... That would not loose licenses.

I'm sure there are strict rules about businesses not using Single Developer.... or atleast I would hope so.

It doesn’t look like there is any 'time out' of the license.

Single Developer is available to all users and the license is perpetual. There are no time or data testrictions at all.

The Pro-IV community are probably surprised that Northgate is giving something away at no charge!

Aye Right!

The Scottish double-positive - love it.

If anyone does want to use @MOD in single dev and they are licensed and they
have access to a v5.0 or greater standard P4 install they can produce a run-time
export containg all functions beginning with '$' and '@'.

Make sure you DO NOT REPLACE EXISTING functions when doing the VIP import from .prx file

I've done it and it works bar a file error message which did no harm

But why not just VIP- it's pretty useful once you get into it.
