Dear Gang,

We are in the process of reworking our User Interface. Does anyone know of an easy to implement way to implement better looking buttons for menu selections? We have spent a good deal of time dressing up our systems, but the menu buttons look deathly.

Obviously, we can create our own graphics for the buttons. However, the thought of retrofitting a couple hundred menu functions is a touch on the ugly side.

Is anyone else bothering with this or are you using the Active X tree function instead for your menu systems?

Thanks in advance,

Joseph

Joseph, What we do is set the graphics portion for each buttton, the main graphic we created a grayover jpg and for the moused pressed we have a redover jpg. Be sure to turn off scale.

Try it.

Bill

Hi Joseph

A Prettier Looking application. This is also something on our to-do list now that we've upgraded to 5.5.

you mention above hundreds of menu functions, are these the pro-iv menus ?

We dont use pro-iv menu in our application, We have a menu application (a screen function) and in effect only 1 Menu screen that has 8 menu options/buttons.

We have a menu file with menu records present, 8 options per menu. could be as many as you wish.

When we create a user we assign them a log-on menu and this controls the menus/options etc, to which the users access. when they log-on they are brought to the menu application/screen and the user menu presented could be menus/functions on the page, if a mneu selectd then that menu page of items is presented, which could again be more menus or functions to be accessed.

Our Menu Screen 8 buttors which we populate with the options from the users current menu selected.

We have a user/teminal file which is updated with where a user currently is in their menu sturcture. All of our functions exit back to the same menu appliction which presents user with their current menu, Even when user log-off and logs back on they are back at their last menu accessed.

Manybe you could reduce the over-head of hundreds of menus prior to jazzing up each of these individually, hopefully you can automate the task of updating your current menus.

Rgds

George,

Yes, we do use ProIV menu functions.

I've looked at some of the universal menu systems - like what you mentioned. The issue always seems to be one of when it is worth it to rip out all those functions, put in a new system and QA it.

It certainly is a good point though that the cosmetic overhead would be significantly reduced in the long run.

Regards,

Joseph

Joe, Have you looked at the Menu System that ProIV has for sale?

It might be the ticket if you do not want to write one yourself.

Bill,

I think my partner looked at it briefly. If I remember correclty, I think that the main issue was one of cost justification. I believe that even if we bought the Menu system, we would still have a significant amount of work to convert everything over...

Would you mind sending me a screen capture of your solution?

Regards,

Joseph
