V6 Open Client on Smartphones

07 September 2010 - 11:05 AM

Can anyone report back on their experience of using V6 Open Client on some of the newer iPhone, Symbian, WinMo devices - I guess Safari and Opera Mobile would cover most uses. Any details on screen size limits / user interaction issues etc. would be useful.

We have a application that occasionally runs into problems where users leave a record locked in one session (could be faulty data / unanticipated user action etc.) and then start new sessions which again hit the same record lock and become unresponsive. As documented in other posts in the forum, these sessions are unkillable in the p4 session manager. We are considering using LOCKED_ROWS_RETURNED=Y in our .ini to allow us to use the Record Locked logic position to display some user-friendly message, DSEL(F) etc. As this setting is system-wide, we are trying to establish as fully as possible the impact(s) changing this setting. Can anyone share (unexpected) behaviour they experienced after changing this setting? Or perhaps there is an equivalent logic command that we could set / unset within the scope of the functions that cause us most problems, avoiding a system-wide change. A complete regression test is not a realistic proposition.

The environment is ProIV 5.5 Native, Windows Server 2003, Oracle 9i.

ProIV v6 Oracle connectivity

02 November 2009 - 04:34 PM

Working with v6 I'm having some issues connecting to Oracle - getting a rollback with the following details:

J:\Program Files\Northgate\ProIV Version 6\Virtual Machine\proora.dll

This is the 64bit Windows version - has anyone had any issues with driver mistmatches / 32 / 64 bit issues (http://www.proiv.com...s/list/102.page) etc. - would be grateful for any pointers.

ProIV v6 Developer crash leaves functions locked

02 November 2009 - 04:26 PM

After crashing out of Developer due to a non-p4 issue I found recently that some functions I had been working on were left locked by the same user I was logged in as, must be under some runaway session etc. - I couldn't get anything but read only access to the functions until I restarted the server. Restarting the various services (Windows OS) had no effect. I've seen this raised in two other threads on the forum for v5.5 but nothing for v6+ - are there any .lock type files that can be deleted / bootstraps that can have a flag amended / some other mechanism to release the edit locks on these functions / etc. Bouncing the server is possible for off site dev environment but not really a runner for servers shared with other dev / users etc. TIA for any helpful hints.

File Viewer for files with long record lengths

15 October 2009 - 09:48 AM

I am currently using the ProIV Report Viewer to view the spooled output of an sql query on a client-side screen and am trying to find out if there are any other p4 controls / mechanisms available (P4 v5.5) to view files on the client. I'm hitting the report width limit of 240, and while I can set the line width to 240 in the spooled sql output, for files with a large number of columns it look quite difficult to read - ideally I would like to be able to set the line to 9999 for the spooled sql output, and then use something that throws the output up on screen without hitting limits for report width, p4 file variable size limits, etc. I'd rather not send the file from the server to the client and run a system command to bring up notepad etc. Would be grateful for any suggestions.
