In Topic: "Parallel" Apple and PRO-IV Client

03 October 2007 - 02:41 PM

G'Day Lew,

I've just joined the 'Dark Side' and purchased a Mac PRO. I will get the parallel stuff to have a look, but can confirm that the kernel & client work as expected using VMWare Fusion.

Cheers,

Terry

Has anyone run the Windows Client under the Apple Windows virtual machine "Parallel"? We have a pending sale which hinges on this. The owner does not want to part with his Mac.

In Topic: Internal object code is older that bootstraps

28 June 2007 - 02:45 PM

G'Day,

I've seen this problem when you're using the wrong PROIV executable/Kernel combination, i.e., your executable is for version 4.x and your bootstraps are actually version 5.x.

Some things to try:
1. Check that you're using the same startup script as before.
2. Check if there are multiple versions of the PROIV executable on the machine.
If so check the file sizes to see if they are different.
If so create a startup script for each executable and see which one works.
3. Try to logon so the PROIV splash screen starts and check the version listed.
You can run multiple versions of PROIV at the same time, but the KISS principle is best followed.
If you have multiple versions of the executable, figure out what you really need and archive the others.

If those options don't solve the problem there are other things that can be done, but I'd be surprised if one of the above points doesn't fix your problem.

Cheers,

I seem to recall Forefront. Again, it's based on the old ASC code...

Have the files been moved from one location to another?

Has anyone changed the startup script(s)?

Kinda sounds like you need to make sure the PROPATH (Bootstraps) & PRODATA (User Data) directory are properly specified.

Cheers,

In Topic: Error in opening file (10099)

27 June 2007 - 12:12 PM

G'Day Zaytsevi,

I've seen this type of error in a non-PROIV environment when there are problems with SQL*NET. It appears that you're using the ASC Accounting application (or a vertical package based on ASC). What is the hardware/software platform, i.e., where do the PROIV bootstraps reside and where is the Oracle instance located?

Things to check are:

1. Can you do a TNSPING to the Oracle instance? (TNSPING'ing doesn't mean you can actually connect, but it's a start).
2. Can you start a command line SQLNET session to the Oracle instance?
3. Assuming you can connect, try to do a count of the number of rows in a table (Select count(*) from <FILENAME>).

Try to do the above items from both your PC and the machine hosting the PROIV Kernel. Use the same connect string PROIV uses (there are a couple of ways to connect, i.e., you can use:
SQLPLUS <USERNAME/PASSWORD>@<ORACLE_SID>
or
Have the Username/Password/SID set via environment variables.

Oracle has a couple of log files that may shed more light on the problem. Look in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin for them.

Hope this helps,

Terry

Anyone got any idea of what these errors are?

In Topic: HP-UX 11.xx

14 December 2006 - 05:35 AM

G'Day Rick,

I'm running my own personal PROIV & Glovia with Oracle 9i and 10g server on HP 11.23.

I have the latest from PROIV (5.5), Glovia (effectively 4.6 I believe) and talk to both 9i and 10g databases.

Everything seems to work as expected (but I'm not using it in a PRODUCTION mode).

I'd be happy to answer any specific questions you have...

Cheers,

Terry

Anyone out there running ProIV 5.5 on HP-UX 11.23 (which seems to be aka 11i v2) in the PA-RISC environ?

If so, which maintenance release of 5.5 are you running, and are you running 32- or 64-bit?, also, did you go through an OS upgrade to reach 11.23 (eg from 11.11 v1) and any related information?

Thanks
Rick
