Limiting records in a list box

08 March 2006 - 03:52 PM

Was wondering if anyone knows a clever way to limit the number of records returned to a list box. We have some very large Oracle tables. If the user enters too broad a search they may be pulling thousands of records from the Oracle table. This takes forever to load into the list box. What we would like to do is pull a let's say 500 hundred records at a time then enable an icon to let the user know there are more records available. VIP does this when you export a large number of objects I am not sure where or how this is done.

Any help would be appreciated.

excel

17 April 2003 - 07:05 PM

Can anyone give me an easy way to automatically call excell from the pro-iv 4.6 client and import a csv file. Here is what I did so far:
In the Proiv.ini file I set up my report editor to be Excel. Then I put the file type to be csv. I changed my spool to be CRT:OUTFMT= D which produced the comma seperated file. The problem of course is having excel as the report editor when I an not using CRT:OUTMT=D.

Is there a way to change the report editor conditionally or issue a client command from the unix server to call excel with the file I am creating?

Also the CRT:OUTFMT=D puts the minus sign on negative numbers after the number. Excel sees this as an alpha field rather than a negative number, does anyone have a solution for this? Obviously I'm not an Excel user.

Thanks in advance,

Frank
