Convert System Date to Julian Date

i need to know how to convert the Proiv system date to give me a 3 digit julian day of the year. this three digit julian date is the day only from within the year of that date, not since jan 1 1800. ex: if the system date is 02/05/05, the date i need is 036.

$START_OF_YEAR = $CURRENT_YEAR + '0101'
#START_OF_YEAR = CDATE($START_OF_YEAR)
#CURRENT_DAY = @DATE - #START_OF_YEAR + 1
