All,

I am having a strange problem.

One of my customer who is using SUN Soloaris O/S and having a PROIV 4.6 r523 enviornment.

I need to establish a connection to the system and while I am uinsg a GUI client to connect to the server, my GUI client just does not display me the LOGIN screen, the red flash icon appears at the right bottom corner and the client keeps waiting. When I do a grep using other telnet session, I actually see my GUI client has already established connection to the server and the pro is running.

If I changed the logon user to be Transparent Logon (i.e., by pass the LOGON screen), I actually can see the FUNCTION name the system is supposed to run at the bottom bar but again the red flash button appears and my screen keeps on waiting. Again, from Telnet using grep, I can see the pro is running for the GUI client...

What's wrong with this connection?

Regards,

Vol

Have you checked out the Function name that you can see, it sounds like that may be looping ?

Vol,

This is a shot in the dark, but:

Make sure that PROTERM=GUICLR or GUIDEV

If this is the case, check the settings for GUICLR & GUIDEV to make sure that they are proper. It could be that the GUI emulation is wrong and therefore doesn't know how to draw the screen.

hth,

Joseph

Vol,

Perchance do you do any of the followings:

1) Use SSH

2) Cache graphics locally

I have seen an issue with SSH where the first function you hit hangs until you . After that point, everything is fine.

I've also seen some long performance drags if you are setup to cache graphics to a directory that doesn't exist or from a network location you can't see.

Joseph

Joesph,

I am out of any idea. I am not using SSH. And I don't think I am using cache graphic

My other colleague using exsctly the same PIV and connection can connect to the server and start the system, I just don't know why mine hangs at the first screen :(

Vol

Is it really the same .piv - i.e. are you sharing a drive with the .piv on it
or are you copying it from pc to pc?

Either way - are your P4 client installations exactly the same - same locations
for proivconst.ini, graphics directories etc?

Vol,

Can you post the PIV contents here?

One other thought comes to mind...

Check if you have some odd settings in the PIV under the kControlStackSize

I seem to remember some issues where I've had to set kControlStackSize=0 and then delete any and all function names underneath it.

Joseph

PROIV tries to check for updates.

There is a recent bug in the product where it tries to connect to Internet because of that and if you do not have internet, hangs. Check for such possibilities.

My problem is not internet related. I am actually accessing the server through VPN and therefore I definitely can access internet. My problem is that I can access the server through VPN, then click connect from GUI client, logged into PROIV and the function function (LOG IN Function) is excuted however the screen cannot be displayed.

Vol,

Here is something to check:

On your computer, do you have the following directories?

C:\GLOVIA\PROIVCLIENT\1024x768
C:\GLOVIA\PROIVCLIENT\1024x768\UNUSED

Do you have permissions to read / write these directories?

Also, do you have permissions to read / write C:\DOCUME~1\VOLYIP~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\ and does it exist?

It may be getting hung trying to download graphics.

hth,

Joseph

Hi Joesph,

My other PIV files using the same graphic folders have no problem. The problem only happens when I connect to a particular remote server using VPN...... :(

Vol,

When you are connected via VPN, can you ping the other server? It's possible that your problem may be VPN (and not ProIV) related...

Joseph

Hi Joesph,

But if I having problem with the VPN connection, I should be even having connection problem. But in fact, I can connect to the server, execute the first PROIV function, but it just does not finish and return me the graphic screen :(

Regards,

Vol
