Bootstap files in multiple directories under UNIX

I'm looking at placing some of the bootstrap files such as
vardef.pro into the data directory.

Is this possible to plit the bootstrap files into two different dirctories in unix?
This sort of structure is
possible under VMS!

Use the unix command 'link'

i.e. link $PRODATA/vardef.pro vardef.pro
