Has anyone else encountered this under HPUX/AIX(rs6000)?

In a screen or update function, the function issues a
UMSG('something',-1). If user has already hit tab
a few times to type ahead, or hits TAB at that point,
then the UMSG will lock, and you have to Ctrl-C.

Is there any way around this or a fix for this?
