We have a client with approx 135-145 users on and at some point in the morning they will get an error message
error in opening sortfile -1bf-0 or some other sortfile name,
PROTEMP is defined in the pro4.ini file and these files
do show up in the folder where this is pointed.
They get this error a couple times a day and the only way to
resolve is to start and stop the services. Not a friendly way
to work.
Any suggestions as to why they might be getting this error.
We have them delete all the sort files now on a daily basis,
this does not help.

Appreciate your help.

Elaine,

We had a similar problem (Solaris Unix & P4 ver 4.4r514) when initially
set up - it turned out to be the write permissions on temporary files
created for sorts. Under Unix, we found it best to ensure
all users had group write privileges for these files,
otherwise we got random errors similar to this
